Around Rio de Janeiro, its shantytowns - so-called favelas - line up the hills. Many people would not set foot in them, discouraged by stories of corrupted police, war between rivalising gangs and drug-trafficking. However, the favelas mean not only drugs and war, they are also a place called home for many people.
